Terms of Use
Last updated: October 21, 2026
These terms apply to the Boxes app and the gift links it sends. By using Boxes you agree to them, so please read them. They include the official rules, which are also shown in the app.
1. Who we are
Boxes is run by [Company name, kennitala, address] (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at [contact email].
2. Who can use Boxes
You must be 13 or older to use Boxes. If you’re under 18, check with a parent or guardian that they’re happy for you to use it. Gifts are offered by businesses in Iceland, so they can only be used there.
3. Your account
- You sign in with your phone number and a code we send to it by text message. Keep your phone safe: anyone who can receive your codes can use your account.
- One account per person. Don’t use someone else’s number or create extra accounts.
- The name you choose goes with any gift you give away, so the person who gets it can see it’s from you. Don’t use a name that’s offensive or pretends to be someone else.
4. How Boxes works
- Boxes is here to help local businesses find new customers, and to help you discover and support the places near you.
- Boxes is free. No purchase is necessary, and nothing you can buy improves your chances.
- Each day you can open one of three boxes. A box may hold a gift: a voucher from a participating local business. Our servers decide at random whether a box holds a gift and which gift it is, and each gift is different. The chance that the box you open holds a gift is at least 1 in 3.
- A new day starts at midnight where you are. Boxes you don’t open don’t carry over.
- We can change how Boxes works, the number of boxes or how often gifts appear, and we may pause or end Boxes. If we end it, we’ll try to give you notice so you can use your gifts.
5. Gifts
- Gifts are provided and honored by the businesses that offer them. Each gift shows its conditions, such as what it’s for, the days and hours it can be used, and when it expires.
- A gift can be used once, at the business that offers it, before it expires. It has no cash value and can’t be exchanged for money or sold.
- The business, not us, is responsible for the goods and services you get with a gift. If something goes wrong with them, contact the business. If a business stops honoring its gifts, tell us and we’ll try to help, but we can’t guarantee a replacement.
- Any taxes on a gift are the responsibility of the person who uses it.
6. Giving a gift away
- You can give a gift away by sending a link. The person who opens it can use the gift, with or without the app. Once you’ve given a gift away you can’t use it yourself, and its code changes.
- Treat the link like the voucher itself: anyone who has it can use the gift. Only send it to the person you mean it for.
- The link shows your name, any message you add and the offer. Don’t write anything offensive, unlawful or hurtful in your message.
7. Be fair
Don’t cheat. In particular, don’t use more than one account, automate the app, tamper with it or with our servers, or try to get gifts in ways these terms don’t allow. If you do, we may cancel gifts you got that way and suspend or close your account.
8. Notifications
If you allow notifications, we’ll tell you when new boxes are ready and when a gift is about to expire. You can turn them off at any time in your phone’s settings.
9. Closing your account
You can close your account at any time in Settings. Your boxes and your gifts are then deleted, except gifts you’ve given away, which stay with the people who have them. The Privacy Policy explains what we keep and why.
10. Our responsibility
We work to keep Boxes running and fair, but we provide it as it is and can’t promise it will always be available or free of errors. As far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect losses, or for the goods and services businesses provide with their gifts. Nothing in these terms limits your rights as a consumer under Icelandic law.
11. App stores
These terms are between you and us, not Apple or Google. Apple and Google are not sponsors of, and are not involved in, Boxes or its gifts in any way. They have no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app, and aren’t responsible for any claims about it. If you got Boxes from the App Store, you may only use it on Apple devices you own or control, as the App Store’s terms allow, and Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce these terms as third-party beneficiaries.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we’ll ask you to accept the new terms in the app before you open another box.
13. Law
These terms are governed by Icelandic law. Disputes go to the District Court of Reykjavík (Héraðsdómur Reykjavíkur), unless the law where you live gives you the right to go to your local courts.
14. Contact
